In March 2005 a conference on the material culture of Cyprus until the Roman period was held at the University of Hamburg, organised by a group of female students. The conference offered young scholars the possibility to present their recent research on ancient Cyprus. Most of the papers held during that event are compiled in this book. The reader will be confronted with a wide spectrum of Cypriot archaeology – both with regard to topics and chronology. The volume covers papers on Cypriot incense burners, banquet scenes on Cypriot vases of the Geometric and Archaic periods, elaborate Archaic tombs in Tamassos, the Hellenistic-Roman temples for graeco-egyptian gods in Soli, rooms used for sacred banqueting in Cyprus and the Near East, the early Christian church of the Panayia Angeloktistos in Kiti and archaeological activities in Cyprus during the 19th century.
