mTAN
A forgotten password is one of the most common problems users contact the ZIVline or the service counter about. To date, changing a password was complicated, but now there is a considerably more comfortable way: the ZIV-mTAN procedure makes it unnecessary to visit the service counter in person and works promptly nevertheless.
In order to identify a user nothing but a mobile phone is required. Many users probably know similar procedures which have been implemented by several banks for online banking. The reasons for using mTAN are obvious: it is very secure and, at the same time, very user-friendly.
But how does it work? By way of precaution, every user can save a mobile phone number in MyZIV - the relevant rubric “Provide for risk of loss” can be found under the heading “Passwords and PINs”. The number stated is verified by entering a multi-digit code sent via SMS. Furthermore, a security question needs to be selected for the mTAN procedure.
If a password is actually lost, users can request a code on the webpage “Lost your password?” which is valid for 15 minutes. In combination with the correct answer to the security question, this code allows users to change the password. Of course both, the procedure and the SMS sent in case of loss, are free of charge.
