The Centre for Islamic Theology aims at staying abreast of the increasing pluralism of religious convictions in Germany and at contributing to the training of highly needed young researchers in the field of faith-oriented Islam research; the Centre also aims to establish Islamic theology in Germany, following the recommendations of the German Council for Science and Humanities in their ‘recommendations on pursuing theology and religious research at German universities’ in January 2010.

By establishing research professorships, research groups for young researchers and faith-oriented degree courses (from bachelor degrees to doctoral programmes), research activities, promoting young researchers and teaching in the field of Islam is to be advanced in order to guarantee an academic and rational reflection of Islamic theology and to establish an academically-sound Islamic theology in a European context.
