2nd PhD-Workshop
The second PhD students workshop with researchers involved in the Transregio 61 between the Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Science and the University of Münster took place on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at the Tsinghua University on behalf of Prof. Zhang. This provided a good opportunity for the young scientists on presenting current research results of ongoing projects among a broad scientific spectrum.
Generally, topics focussed on generation of new materials, the assembly of 3d-structures and guiding this to potential applications. It could be shown that characteristics like the solubility [7], photorefractivity [3] or electronic properties [2] can be generated and/or tweaked by advanced polymer chemistry. In addition progresses were made in the control and creation of semiconductor nucleation surfaces [8], lipid surfaces [1] and organic-anorganic hydbrid systems [6, 10]. Challenging life, new methods to control cell viability were presented by formation of a biological compatible DNA hydrogel [4] exploiting the DNA’s i-motif structure [5] and the synthesis for light-activated antimicrobial polymers [9].
This joint meeting enabled a strong exchange of ideas between scientists of different research areas and has led to new scientific ideas due to its interdisciplinarity which have great potential to develop into future collaborations and projects.
