MMH Sport Study" project from the "Sport in Oncology" seminar receives science prize

On 9 February 2023, the 1st Science Award of the association "Together against Cancer" was presented in the Schloßberghotel Homburg (Saarland). Approximately 120 guests accepted the invitation in a festive atmosphere. Dr. Maria Cacacciola-Ketter, 1st Chairperson of the Association, hosted the event. The MMH Sports Study working group and the Gene Therapy for Breast Cancer working group were each awarded €23,000!

The "MMH Sports Study" is conducted as a multi-centre study and investigates the influence of sports on glioblastoma patients! This study is also a central project in the seminar "Sport in Oncology", which is led by Ralf Brandt, Eike Boll and Dorothee Wiewrodt. Students who decide to participate in this study are first certified in an additional training course and then train the patients independently according to the prescribed protocols. So far, 10 students have been certified. All results of the trained patients are presented in a poster at the end of the seminar. Study assistant Johanna Jost, a former student at the IfS, is currently studying for a doctorate at the UKM and collects and categorises all incoming data. Prof. Dr. med. Dorothee Wiewrodt, who is responsible for psychooncology in the seminar, is in charge of the study.
