In 1998, due to the results of a survey with athletes of the German athlete association (DLV; Deutscher Leichtathletikverband) and the General German association for University Sports (adh; Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsportverband), the initiative for a nationwide coordinated project for top-level Sports development was created.
The corporate analysis revealed that the combination of an academic education and top-level sport is not only possible but also highly requested; however, many active athletes need special framework conditions.
This is the reason why the adh and its partner organizations have developed a contract since 1999, with the aim of establishing better, more flexible and secured study conditions for young students who wish to participate in top-level sport while studying.

The WWU Münster and 172 other German Universities have acceded to this contract. (March 2010)
