Experience is Our Success (EOS) - European best methods in education of seniors

Background

Experience is what you gain in the course of long years of life and working. Experience is added value. Nevertheless, in large parts of Europe a steadily increasing number of older working-age people find themselves unemployed for various reasons. Moreover, the numbers of job seekers aged 50+ are most likely to increase even further as the beginning of the retirement age is continuously raised. Although there is a growing demand for experienced and reliable employees employers are quite often unwilling to give a job to a person over the age of 50. This is where the project „Experience is Our Success” (EOS) comes in.

Objectives

EOS is a learning partnership funded with support from the European Commission within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme for adult education (Grundtvig).

The main objective of this partnership is to exchange experiences and information on how to better (re)integrate disadvantaged people aged 50+ into the labour market. EOS aims to find and define best and innovative methods of education and training for those who are unemployed due to age, health problems, low qualification and/or further disadvantages like long-term unemployment. Moreover, EOS seeks to reduce age discrimination by raising awareness of older people‘s talents and potential among employers.

Intended Results

All partners involved in the EOS learning partnership will provide a regional labour market analysis specifying numbers and data concerning the group of unemployed people aged 50+, their training and educational status, and corresponding requirements. In order to get more relevant data a questionnaire is to be developed asking the unemployed to specify their various needs. Moreover, local meetings will be organized for the promotion of dialogue between the different actors in the labour market such as job centres, educational institutions, and employers. Last but not least, international networking among adult learners is to be established.

To facilitate and to support all these activities the social networking platform http://eos.mixxt.eu has been created and is used for a) cooperation among the EOS team members, b) communication with the public, and c) representation of the learning partnership and its results.
