Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in industrial countries. Therefore, the Collaborative Research Centre 656 Molecular Cardiovascular Imaging (SFB 656 MoBil) focuses on new imaging methods which allow for an earlier and more precise diagnosis and which contribute to avoiding heavy subsequent damages. Scientists and clinicians from medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science work together in the innovative research area.

The team develops labeled molecules which target and visualise disease-specific enzymes occurring in cardiovascular diseases. In parallel, it designs innovative imaging devices and algorithms. In the area of disease models, it is especially important to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical applications.
