ERA-NET
Ziel von ERA-NET-Vorhaben (European Research Area Net) ist die Förderung und Koordinierung der Zusammenarbeit zwischen nationalen und regionalen Forschungsförderorganisationen bzw. Programmagenturen (z.B. DFG, Projektträger u.a.). Die Fragmentierung des Europäischen Forschungsraumes (EFR) soll verringert werden, indem nationale Programme besser aufeinander abgestimmt und in Kooperationen umgesetzt werden.
Innerhalb der langfristig angelegten ERA-NET-Vorhaben können Partner aus mehreren Staaten gemeinsame Aktivitäten wie Clustering, Trainingsmaßnahmen, eine gegenseitige Öffnung der Infrastrukturen oder transnationale Forschungsaktivitäten durchführen, indem z. B. gemeinsame Strategien, Arbeitsprogramme, Ausschreibungen und Bewertungsprozesse erarbeitet werden.
Die Ausschreibungen der ERA-NETs finden sowohl über die Arbeitsprogramme und Aufrufe der einzelnen thematischen Schwerpunkte statt als auch für Projekte außerhalb der festgesetzten Themenbereiche (horizontale ERA-NETs).
Universitäten können im Rahmen der Ausschreibungen Forschungsanträge bei der jeweiligen nationalen oder regionalen Förderorganisation einreichen.

NATO - Science for Peace and Security
The SPS Programme (Science for Peace and Security) supports collaboration between scientists from NATO member states and those from Partner countries associated with NATO. Grants are given for workshops, training, and multi-year projects which are focused on research topics relevant to NATO’s objectives. All activities funded under the Programme must address topics that are proposed in response to those Key Priorities. The SPS Key Priorities, which are in line with NATO’s Strategic Objectives and formally approved by the NATO Political and Partnerships Committee (PPC), are reviewed on a regular basis. Partner nations which have developed Individual Partnership Action Plans (IPAPs) or Individual Partnership Programmes (IPPs) identify their national and regional priorities in those documents.
Activities are based either on applications submitted by individual experts/scientists (bottom-up activities) or are developed by the Emerging Security Challenges (ESC)/SPS Working Group (top-down activities). Top-down activities are initiated in response to specific needs (pressing priorities identified by NATO divisions or Committees, requests from partner countries, important issues identified by Global Partner countries, etc.).

The Science for Peace and Security Programme offers grants to scientists in NATO, Partner and Mediterranean Dialogue countries to collaborate on priority research topics.

Applications may be submitted at any time. The next deadline is 1 October 2013. Applications received later than this date will be considered during the next evaluation cycle. As applicants will be informed about the final decision on funding within a year following submission of the application, it is important for them to consider this when making a decision on the dates of their activity.
