AXA Research Fund: Call for projects, post-doctoral fellowships and doctoral fellowships

Areas of research eligible for funding by the AXA Research Fund:
•    Environmental risks (natural catastrophes, climate change and associated risks)
•    Life risks (aging and long-term care, emerging biomedical risks (emerging
infectious diseases and pandemics), addictions and risky behaviors)
•    Socioeconomic risks (Geopolitical risks at regional or international level,
macroeconomic risks, large corporate risks, sociology and psychology of risks)

Only registered research institutions may submit applications through their operational contact. No individual applications will be considered. During the first round, the institutions announce their intent to propose candidates for a given campaign and specify the anticipated research field(s) they wish to apply for, explaining the strengths and characteristics of both the institution and the proposal. Once selected for application by the Fund, institutions may propose candidates, who will then submit their applications online during the second round.

The following three new schemes will replace AXA’s previous Project funding scheme:

AXA Awards (up to 2 years, 250 k€) aim at supporting mid-career researchers with extremely high potential for innovation in their fields to develop and test their hypotheses, thus accelerating the pace of innovation in risk research areas of greatest concern.
AXA Outlooks (up to 3 years, 300 k€) will help innovative researchers with high potential for popularization on key topics to disseminate their findings; the objective is to reach a wider audience through many possible formats, thus facilitating the dialogue between academic communities, policymakers, decision-makers, experts, and other opinion-formers (journalists, NGOs…).
AXA Joint Research Initiatives (up to 3 years, 300 k€) will, under the leadership of a senior academic researcher, offer entry points and a collaborative framework to collaborate with an AXA in-house expert team, providing them with essential elements for the success of their projects (data, field access…); such research will aim to produce research publications in the open literature, available to everyone.

Alongside the new schemes, AXA Research Fellowships for Post-Docs (120 k€ over 2 years) will be continued.

Deadline Projects (WWU-intern): 15 December 2012
There will only be one campaign for AXA Post-Doc-Fellowships per year, starting in January 2013. Please submit applications to SAFIR until Nov 30, 2012. Doctoral fellowships will discontinue.
