Graduate School
The Cluster of Excellence set up a graduate school to support the coming academic generation. It resumed its work in the winter semester 2008-2009. After three admission procedures and with 47 doctoral students, the graduate school is now complete for the Cluster of Excellence’s first sponsored period.
The programme is laid out interdisciplinarily and is oriented towards the cluster’s four main fields of research – normativity, staging, integrative procedures and violence. It aims at an interdisciplinarily and cross-departmentally designed and at the same time flexible Ph.D. training, which accounts for the characteristics of the different disciplines’ traditions and requirements.
While the content-related and conceptual supervision falls to the Cluster of Excellence’s professors, six research fellows offer the doctoral students additional forums in group discussions and one-on-one interviews and in interdisciplinary seminars, thus contributing to a constructive, creative and cooperative research climate. The colleagues’ outside perspective fructifies one’s own research to a decisive degree, and the interdisciplinarity strengthens the presentation, confirmability and comprehensibility of one’s own terminology, concepts and results.
Within the scope of the graduate school, the period of support initially amounts to two years. On the basis of the results available by then and the dissertation’s schedule, a prolongation of another year until the completion of the paper is possible.
