Am Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt die Vollzeitstelle
einer Juniorprofessur für Wirtschaftsinformatik
mit dem Schwerpunkt Digitale Transformation und Gesellschaft
(mit Tenure Track Option (W3))
zu besetzen.
Die künftige Stelleninhaberin oder der künftige Stelleninhaber soll das Fach Wirtschaftsinformatik mit dem Schwerpunkt Digitale Transformation und Gesellschaft in Forschung und Lehre vertreten, eine qualitative oder multi-methodische Ausrichtung aufweisen und das Profil der Wirtschaftsinformatik in Münster inhaltlich ergänzen.
Im Vordergrund steht die Betrachtung der Transformationsdynamik der Digitalisierung im Wechselspiel zwischen Wirtschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft. Denkbare Schwerpunkte sind:
- Digitale Plattformen als kritische gesellschaftliche Infrastrukturen,
- Systemische Analyse von Digitalisierungsfolgen: High Tech-Ökosysteme, alternative Governancemodelle und gesellschaftliche Implikationen,
- Digitale Transformation der Arbeit und Organisationsmodelle digitaler Arbeit.
- Das Spannungsfeld von Regulierung und Innovation,
- Digitale Transformation und Rekonfiguration von Geschäftsmodellen: Wertschöpfung vs. Wertextraktion,
- Gesellschaftlich verantwortungsvolle Gestaltung der Digitalisierung,
- Die Verbreitung sozialer Medien, und die Entwicklung gesellschaftlicher Werte,
- Schattenseiten von Big Data/ Datafication,
- Digitale Risikogesellschaft,
Erwartet werden Schnittstellen in Forschung und Lehre zu sozialwissenschaftlichen Aspekten der Digitalisierung (z.B. die Reflexion gesellschaftlicher und ethischer Aspekte der technischen Entwicklung im interdisziplinären Kontext).
Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten sollen durch ihre bisherige Forschung belegen, dass sie in der Lage sind, im Themengebiet der Professur auf höchstem wissenschaftlichen Niveau zu forschen. Eine entsprechende Qualifikation wird insbesondere durch die Qualität der Promotion, und die Qualität von wissen-schaftlichen Aufsätzen nachgewiesen. Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten sollen durch ihre geplanten Forschungsarbeiten und Publikationen sowie ihr Forschungskonzept ihre Perspektiven für die Professur und für die Weiterentwicklung der eigenen Arbeiten dokumentieren sowie diese in einen größeren For-schungskontext einordnen.
Erfahrung in der Akquise und Durchführung von Drittmittelprojekten sind wünschenswert. Auslandserfahrung sowie internationale Zusammenarbeit werden erwartet; hier wird insbesondere die aktive Mitarbeit im European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS) erwartet.
Die Aufgaben umfassen überwiegend auf Englisch angebotene Lehrveranstaltungen im Umfang von 4 SWS in der ersten und 5 SWS in der zweiten Phase der Juniorprofessur, die Betreuung von Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten sowie von Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden, der Aufbau einer Forschungsgruppe und Einwerben von Drittmitteln, die Mitarbeit bei allgemeinen Instituts- und Fachbereichsaufgaben.
Die Ernennung erfolgt zunächst für drei Jahre (erste Phase). Bei positiver Evaluierung wird das Dienstverhältnis um weitere drei Jahre verlängert (zweite Phase). Bei positiver Evaluierung nach 6 Jahren besteht die Möglichkeit zum Übergang auf eine unbefristete W3-Stelle.
Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium der Wirtschaftsinformatik oder eines vergleichbaren Studienganges, sehr gute Englischkenntnisse, pädagogische Eignung für die akademische Lehre in der Regel nachgewiesen durch Lehrkonzept, die Qualität des Lehrvortrags und Kursevaluationen, sowie die besondere Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, die in der Regel durch die hervorragende Qualität der Promotion und hochrangige Publikationen nachgewiesen wird. Falls Deutsch nicht die Muttersprache ist, sind Deutschkenntnis auf C1-Niveau spätestens nach 4 Jahren nachzuweisen.
Zum Qualifikationsprofil gehört Flexibilität und Belastbarkeit, Selbstständigkeit und Eigenverantwortung, Teamfähigkeit und soziale Kompetenz sowie die Bereitschaft zu interdisziplinärer Arbeit.

The Department of Information Systems in the School of Business and Economics at the University of Münster, Germany, invites applications for a
Tenure Track Assistant Professorship in Information Systems,
Specifically Digital Transformation and Society
(pay grade W1 with tenure option for full professorship W3)
The expected starting date is as soon as possible.
The successful applicant is expected to research and teach within the field of information systems, specifically digital transformation and society, to pursue qualitative or multi-method research projects and complement the current profile of the IS department. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an ability to undertake research at a high international standard, which will be evidenced by the quality of their doctoral thesis and high-ranking academic publications.
Possible thematic focus areas
The professorship is proposed to research the dynamics of digital transformation at the intersection of economics, politics and society. Possible focus areas are:
- digital platforms as critical societal infrastructures
- a systemic analysis of the impact of digitalization: high tech ecosystems, institutional innovation and societal impact
- digital transformation of work and new models of organizing digital work
- regulation vs. innovation
- digital transformation and reconfiguration of business models: value generation vs. value extraction
- socially accountable design of digitalization
- spread of social media and the transformation of societal values
- dark side of big data and datafication
- Digital risk society
We expect an account of the interdisciplinary nature of this field of research.
Responsibilities
- teaching (in English) and examinations in the various study programs (BIS, MSc IS, PhD) including 4 hours of instruction per week (equivalent to 1 module) during the first 3 years, 5 hours per week thereafter
- supervision of bachelor and master’s theses and doctoral candidates
- building a research group and attracting research funding
- participating in services and committees at the department and the school
Qualifications
- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or have equivalent qualifications at the time of appointment, either in information systems or a related field.
- The applicant must have professional proficiency in English. German language skills at the level of C1 must be demonstrated after four years.
- A pedagogical qualification, typically demonstrated by the quality of the teaching concept/philosophy, course evaluations and the quality of the presentation which are part of the application process.
- Ability to conduct research at a high international standard. The applicant is meant to provide an account of her or his research pipeline, i.e. planned research and publications, their research concept, an outlook for the professorship and for the development of their work, including a positioning of it in a wider context of research.
- Experience in attracting external funding and managing funded projects, international experience and international collaboration is welcomed. In particular, we expect active participation in the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS).
- We are looking for a personality who exhibits flexibility and resilience, self-responsibility and the ability to work independently, team spirit and social competence, and openness to interdisciplinary research.
The assistant professorship (W1) is a non-tenured position for up to 6 years. The position may lead to a tenured position as full professor (W3) if the requirements are met. The initial appointment will be for 3 years, which will be extended by another 3 years upon a positive interim evaluation. The decision regarding tenure is typically taken after six years. The applicant chosen is expected to show good academic citizenship, i.e. he/she is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and to actively participate in the activities of the department, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.
