The Mathematics Münster Graduate School at the University of Münster, Germany, is offering several

PhD Positions
Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in
(salary level E13 TV-L, 75%)

in all fields of mathematics related to the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster: “Dynamics – Geometry – Structure”.

The PhD positions are fixed-term for a period of three years. Successful candidates will be expected to start by October 2020. Currently, the regular working time for full (100%) employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. Teaching loads are no more than four hours per week (100% position) and may vary depending on the source of funding.

Some of the positions are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, some by the European Research Council grant “Amenability, Approximation and Reconstruction”, and some by the mathematical institutes of the University of Münster. The financial terms of the position remain consistent regardless of the funding source. The main selection criterion is scientific excellence.

Applications should contain a cover letter, CV, copies of degree certificates (bachelor, master or diploma) and full academic transcripts, as well as proof of proficiency in English or German. Applicants are invited to include examples of their academic work, if appropriate. Moreover, applicants should identify one or two potential Research Areas and nominate at least two potential local supervisors from the list of investigators at Mathematics Münster.

Please arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to mm.applications@uni-muenster.de by 1 May 2020.

Ada Lovelace Fellowships
(salary level E13 TV-L, 25 % add-on position)

Supplementary fellowships will be offered to exceptionally strong candidates in the PhD programme with the aim of increasing gender equality within the mathematical sciences. Fellowships must supplement a doctoral position and applications may be combined with the application for a 75% PhD position. Fellowship applications will also be accepted from current members of Mathematics Münster who hold a PhD position (max. 75%) or who are receiving a scholarship for their doctoral studies.

Applications should contain a cover letter, CV, copies of degree certificates and full academic transcripts. Applicants are invited to include examples of their academic work, if applicable. Suitability for the fellowship might be demonstrated through documentation of an appropriate gender equality concept.
