Information about apprenticeship and study of physics at the WWU Münster
New Bachelor and Master programs
Currently, studies at German universities are being altered in order to fulfill the requirements of the so-called Bologna Declaration. Thus, the Department of Physics at the university of Münster had to replace its established study courses in Physics and Geophysics (Diploma) by tiered study courses (Bachelor/Master).
The new study courses in physics and geophysics have been successfully accredited and were offered for the first time in the winter semester 2006/07 (Bachelor).
The two-year Master programs, which are based on the equivalent Bachelor programs, are provided since the winter semester 2007/08 and 2008/09 in physics and geophysics, respectively.
An enrolment into higher semesters of the diploma program is still possible.
The Bachelor program in physics is also offered with the practical specialisation “Scientific Instrumentation”.
The decision for this option does not have to be made until the third academic year.
The formation of future teachers has occurred in a pilot project of the WWU in graded Bachelor / Master courses of studies since the winter semester 2005/06.
Numbers of students
At the WWU Münster about 2340 students study physics in the following courses of studies:
| Physics | 935 |
| Geophysics | 320 |
| Teacher education program | 840 |
| Promotion | 245 |
Moreover, the Department of Physics organises courses for students of other departments like chemistry, biosciences, earth sciences, landscape ecology, medicine, pharmacy or mathematics. Accordingly, several lectures and experimental exercises take place for about 1400 participants every semester.
