Current position:

I am currently employed as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. L. De Cola’s group, at Physikalisches Institut, Westfälisches-Wilhelms Universität, Münster (Germany), working on the project ONE-P (Organic Nanomaterials for Electronics and Photonics), funded by the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n° 212311, working on design, synthesis and characterization of novel Cu(I)-based materials for application in Organic Light-Emitting Devices (OLEDs).

Education and research interests:

12 March 2009 I defended my PhD thesis in "Applied chemical and enzymatic synthesis" at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department of the University of Bari (supervisor: Prof. G. Natile) entitled "Copper and platinum in biological systems: some toxic and beneficial effects" in which new biophysical and biostructural studies both on the role of copper in the unfolding of the protein ubiquitin and its effect on neurodegenerative diseases and on the cellular uptake of platinum-based antitumor drugs mediated by copper transport proteins have been discussed.

21 July 2005 I received the degree in Chemistry at University of Bari, full mark (110/110) cum laude, with a thesis on "Reactivity between platinum complexes bearing secondary phosphanes and oxygenated bases" (supervisors: Prof. C. F. Nobile, Prof. P. Mastrorilli and Prof. M. Castagnolo), in which the synthesis of new platinum dinuclear complexes with bridging phosphido ligands, with platinum-platinum, bonding was presented.
