The recently discovered proton halo in the first excited 1/2⁺ state of ¹⁷F is investigated in the non-linear relativistic mean-field model. It is shown that this model can reproduce well, without readjustment of any force parameters, not only the ground state properties of ¹⁷F but also the proton halo in the excited 1/2⁺ state. The possibility of the existence of a proton halo in other proton-rich nuclei is discussed. We also analyse other factors which may noticeably affect the formation of proton halos.
