The convergent close coupling method and its
application to electron-atom/ion scattering
The talk will discuss a method of solving the Schrodinger equation for
electron-atom/ion scattering which has proven to be outstandlingly successful
in the past five years when applied to one and two electron valence shell
atoms. The method employs a discretisation of the target Hamiltonian in
a subspace of functions which
can be extended to completeness in principle. This enables the target continuum
to be represented by states.
The close coupling equations are formed by folding and integrating over
the target state coordinates, thus yielding a coupled set of equations
in one coordinate. Ionisation processes can be modelled and extracted from
these equations. A brief outline of the model and reasoning is presented
followed by several illustrations with experiment.
