    Using the Library

Opening hours in semester break (09.10.2023 - 02.02.2024):
    Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m - 6:00 p.m.

The library of the English Seminar is located on the first floor at Johannisstraße 12 – 20. The special library offers an ever-growing collection of  about 117 000 volumes, 900 digital media, 39 000 microfilms, and other audio-visual resources.
NEW (May 2022): All the holdings of the Book Studies Library (formerly Aegidiistr. 5) have now been integrated into the library of the English Department and are fully available for use. You will find this collection on the 2nd floor.

The English Department has a reference library. Accordingly, books may be read in the library or partially copied. This allows all users uninterrupted access to the library’s resources.

All students of the University of Münster with a valid student identification card can loan books over the weekend and public holidays.  There is also the possibility of a short-term loan for out-of-house copying. The borrowing policy can be found under  Library Regulations. Attention: The pandemic-related change in the lending conditions for students is still valid. The loan period for books and other media is currently 1 week, a one-week extension is possible on request. (May 2022)

    Questions? We’d love to help: Information in Room 103. E-Mail and telephone:  (0251) 83 - 24 636 or 0251 83 - 24 507

Note for library users with disabilities: Unfortunately, the library of the English Department is not barrier-free. Library staff will fetch any medium for you on request. You are also welcome to pre-order media for use by phone or e-mail, which will then be held for you at the supervisor's desk.

    Library

The Institute’s library contains approximately 45,500 volumes primarily in the fields of early and medieval Chinese history, literature and philosophy, as well as other fields of study related to East Asia. The extensive collection and the quiet atmosphere offer an ideal environment for self-study.

Nearly all of our Chinese books are digitally catalogued and listed in various online catalogues. The holdings are categorised by topic. The library is a non-lending library, but exceptions can be arranged upon request.

    Lending:

The library of the Institute of Scandinavian Studies is in principle a reference library.
Students may borrow a limited number of books if they need them in connection with their examinations. This requires written permission from a member of the institute staff. Some books/journals are excluded from lending; they are marked with a yellow dot. During the lecture period, only weekend lending is possible. During the lecture-free period, the loan period is a maximum of one week! If the borrowed book is needed by the institute before the end of this period, the borrower will be notified.
If the deadline indicated on the second reminder is not met, legal action will be taken and the book will be blocked from the University Library. Books from a seminar apparatus can only be borrowed with the permission of the head of the respective course. Gross violations of this regulation will result in the suspension of the borrowing option.
