Late Autumn School 2017 "Trust through the changes of time? The constitution and meaning of trust in digital times"

(15.11.2017) How does Trust arise? Three public lectures of international scientists at the Late Autumn School 2017 of the DFG Research Training Group “Trust and Communication in a Digitized World”

Digital life worlds are no longer visions of the future. Already today, many parts of the society are characterized and changed by network technologies.
From Health-Apps over social networks’ personalizing selection algorithms to virtual work structures ¬– in their Late Autumn School 2017 (LAD) from November 23 until November 25, the DFG Research Training Group „Trust and Communication in a Digitized World”, which is associated with the Münster Department of Communication, will address how technical evolution changes the constitution of trust within the society.
Under the title “Trust through the changes of time? The constitution and meaning of trust in digital times“, young researchers and renowned researchers from all over the world get together to talk about the social mechanism of trust and its necessity in a digitized world.
Aside from three-day workshop program, LAS 2017 offers three public keynote speeches of international speakers. On Friday, November 24., Prof. Dr. Roger Mayer (North Carolina State University, USA) starts with a speech on the topic „Trust in a Digital Age: Getting beyond 1s & 0s“. Starting at 10.30, the high-profile theorist in the field of trust research speaks in lecture hall Kth I (Katholisch-Theologische Fakultät, Johannisstr. 8-10), about how trust can be constituted in our increasingly digitized societies.
The other two keynote speeches during the LAS 2017 will be held on Saturday, November 25. At 10.00, Prof. Dr. Sirkka Jarvenpaa (University of Texas, Austin USA) starts the day’s program with her keynote speech on “Trust and Distrust in Hybrid and Blended Environments”. The economist speaks about the constitution of trust on work and life worlds in which we find virtual, as well as analog information technologies.
From 11.15, communication scientist Prof. Dr. Yarif Tsfati (University of Haifa, Israel) gives his speech on the topic “Should we trust trust? What journalists and scholars can learn from research about trust in media” and examines the trust in the media and which conclusions journalists can draw from the results of der media trust research. Both keynote speeches will be held in lecture hall F 4, Fürstenberghause, Domplatz 20-22.
All three keynote speeches will be held in English and are free of cost. Everybody interested is welcome!
