11.10. Negotiation skills: Leading focused discussions with confidence
As researchers, you spend a large part of your working day negotiating workloads, resources, materials, priorities, terms and conditions, etc. This half-day training is a well-balanced combination of interactive and practice sessions that offer the opportunity to practice the skills needed to becoming more confident in conducting negotiations. After receiving short theoretical input, you will prepare and practice a negotiation with a key partner. We will touch on the solution-focused approach of leading conversations based on the Harvard Negotiation principles. For future reference, participants will receive a pdf file of the training content complete with pictures taken during the training.

11.10. Kick-off meeting & buffet
Coming from outside Germany to do your PhD at the University of Münster? Each semester the Graduate Centre hosts a welcome evening for all international PhD students. Join us for a relaxed, chatty evening buffet and get ideas about how to make the most of your upcoming research, work and social experiences. The aim of the kick-off meeting is to provide you with practical information and offer space for social interaction among new international PhD students. We will also have a small flea market, where you can get useful items for your new home and donate for a local project.

In this interactive 4-hour workshop, the young researchers will explore the main competencies that facilitate quickly adapting to a new culture and to a different working environment. The draft agenda will be modified or completed based on the individual requests of the programme participants:
1) Welcome, goal of the session and collect questions for the day
2) Answering the questions
3) What difference can be expected based on Hofstede and other intercultural specialists' work?
4) What are the phases of adaptation of change
5) Your personal mission and support network

13.10. Guided walk: Discovery of Münster's past and present
Join us for a thrilling and entertaining guided walk through Münster's Old Town: together we will discover the iconic Town Hall and Saint Paul's Cathedral. The famous three cages of Saint Lambert's church will reveal their unique secrets. We will learn about the large-scale destruction during World War II, and subsequent successful reconstruction. Your guide is looking forward to sharing with you the most significant facts about Münster's eventful history and its exciting present.

The purpose of this English-speaking tour of WWU's institutions is to introduce you to people who help with job hunting, assist with stipend search, and give advice on various issues.

16.10. Finding funding for my future PhD
There are different possibilities to finance your doctoral study. Where can you find information about external funding bodies (e.g., foundations, charities, and trusts) which support doctoral degree pursuits? Linda will guide you through national and international search engines and databases that contain scholarships, grants and other funding opportunities for your PhD.
This day is reserved for preparing an application for a suitable scholarship. How does it work? Simply schedule an appointment with Linda and she will spend time on June 11 mentoring you individually. Please inform yourselves about stipends and other financing options provided by your home countries before the scheduled appointment.
