Edzer Pebesma: Geoinformatics, where are you going?
What should geoinformaticians do? Should we try to let the data speak, or should we be the voice of the data and speak out ourselves? Do particular global challenges require more attention from geoinformaticians than others? Does geoinformatics need a justification being a scientific discipline of its own? Is open source morally better than closed source? I will try to address these questions from the perspectives of spatial statisticians, R, OSGEO and ArcGIS users, GI Science, and data science.
