Selection procedures for Open Call applications:

Candidates will be selected based on individual merit, with available places offered to the highest-ranked applicants. Although all graduates of national or international Master’s programmed in Geoinformatics are eligible, all geosciences are inter-disciplinary and applications are also encouraged from applicants with Bachelor or Master degrees in such fields as mathematics, information and computer sciences, geography, ecology, transportation, agriculture, forestry, energy, and geology.

The selection committee will consider applications based on the grade and relevance of educational qualifications, the quality and relevance of the dissertation proposal, English language skills, academic experience and achievements, and stated motivation for the program. Based on these considerations, applicants might additionally be invited to a Skype interview of 15-20 minutes duration, before taking any further decision.

Best-ranked applicants will then be invited to the Institute for Geoinformatics to participate either for personal interviews or, in case of more applicants, grouped in a selection workshop, where each applicant will be required to present the proposed dissertation project. Following presentations, candidates will be individually interviewed by the selection committee.

The Institute for Geoinformatics will support travel costs for invited candidates of up to 1.000 € for extra-European applicants, up to 500 € for European candidates beyond Germany, and up to 250 € for German candidates, with amounts in all cases matching documented costs. Funds will also be provided to cover the costs of up to two nights accommodation.
