A group action can be studied via various invariants like the induced orbit equivalence relation or crossed product algebras. The purpose of this talk is to introduce a metric-space invariant of an action, generalising the idea of a Cayley graph. Dynamical properties of the action like amenability (including N-amenability) or spectral gap are reflected in geometric features of the invariant (which is called the warped cone). It also has an interesting rigidity theory and can be used to construct counterexamples to the version of the Baum?Connes conjecture for metric spaces.
