DELTA-MIN NETWORK MEETING IN LA PALMA, 2-7 OCTOBER

The 5th Delta-Min Network Meeting was held in La Palma. The focus was on the progress of the ESR´s research. Manolo Prieto led a geological excursion to the ´Parque National de la Caldera de Taburiente´. More information can be found here

DELTA-MIN NETWORK MEETING IN SICILY, 27th MARCH-1st APRIL

The 4th Delta-Min Network Meeting has been held in Taormina, Sicily. The focus was on the progress of the ESR´s research. The meeting included a short course on analytical techniques and a vulcanological excursion to Mt. Etna.  More information can be found here

Mid-Term Meeting and Short Course “Microstructures as indicators of reaction mechanisms” successfully held in Santorini, Greece


The Mid-Term DELTA-MIN meeting was held in Santorini (Greece) from Sunday 3rd October to Friday 8th October 2010. Part of the meeting was a  course on “Microstructures as indicators of reaction mechanisms” and a field trip to the Santorini volcano. More information about the meeting can be found here.

 

27-09-2010 -DELTA-MIN Mid-Term Meeting and Short Course “Microstructures as indicators of reaction mechanisms”


The Mid-Term DELTA-MIN meeting will be held in Santorini (Greece) from Sunday 3rd to Friday 8th October 2010. The group will stay at the Hotel El Greco (http://www.elgreco.com.gr/). Room bookings have been made for all participants for those days.

MEETING DETAILS

The meeting will start as usually with an ice-breaker on Sunday evening. The first part of the meeting is the Mid-Term report, including the "Tour de table" of the scientists-in-charge, the coordinator´s report, the fellow´s individual report and meetings with the REA representative .

In addition, Vala Ragnarsdottir (Dean of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Iceland), David Ettner, who is an Associate Partner of Delta-Min, as well as our invited scientist, Andrea Hamilton (The University of Edinburgh) will give talks. Martin Liira will be involved in a short Soft Skills course on "Voice training for scientific talks". The course on "Microstructures as indicators of reaction mechanisms” will be given by Delta-Min partners and invited scientists. You can find detailed information on the Short Course program here.

There will be a field trip to the Santorini Volcano guided by  Prof Athanasios Godelitsas (University of Athens).

08-03-2010 -DELTA-MIN Second Meeting and Soft Skills Short Course successfully held in Seefeld, Austria


The second DELTA-MIN meeting was held in Seefeld (Tirol, Austria) from Sunday 28th February to Friday 5th March 2010. Part of the meeting were a  course on How to write a paper given by the visiting scientist Christopher Hall (The University of Edinburgh) and a course on How to give a talk, guided by Andrew Putnis. 17-02-2010 -DELTA-MIN Second Meeting and Soft Skills Short Course


The second DELTA-MIN meeting will be held in Seefeld (Tirol, Austria) from Sunday 28th February to Friday 5th March 2010. The group will stay at the Hotel Veronika (http://www.aktivhotel-veronika.at/en). Room bookings have been made for all participants for those days.

MEETING DETAILS

The meeting will start with an ice-breaker on Sunday evening. The first part of the meeting is to hear the talks from the Marie Curie Fellows as well as other student and post/doc participants. These will form the basis for both scientific discussion and the "how to give a talk" sessions later in the week. The talks should be planned to be 12 minutes, which is a typical time for a talk at a conference. After each talk there will be enough time to discuss the scientific aspects of the different research projects.

In addition, Eric Oelkers (Tolouse team leader), David Ettner, who is an Associate Partner of Delta-Min, as well as our invited scientist, Liane Benning from Leeds will give talks. Emilie Janots from Grenoble will be involved in the "Soft Skills course" and will lead a discussion with the Marie Curie Fellows about aspects of living and working in different European Universities. The course on "How to write a Paper" will be given by Chris Hall who is a Visiting Scientist in Delta-Min. This course will be followed by an exercise in writing an abstract for a real or imagined conference. Feedback on the abstracts will be given during the last session on Friday morning.

The Management meeting will focus on reporting procedures.

The programmed Discussion time is essentially free time where projects can be discussed in the various meeting places in the hotel.

12-10-2009 -DELTA-MIN first Meeting and PHREEQC  Short Course was held successfully in Granada, Spain

The first DELTA-MIN meeting was held in the Carmen de la Victoria, Granada from Sunday 4th to Friday 9th October 2009. Part of the meeting was an Introduction to PHREEQC short course by the visiting scientist Manuel Prieto (University of Oviedo). More information about the meeting can be found here.

07-03-2009 -DELTA-MIN first Meeting and PHREEQC  Short Course
The first DELTA-MIN meeting will be held in the Carmen de la Victoria, Granada from Sunday 4th to Friday 9th October 2009. The group will stay at the Carmen (http://www.ugr.es/~rinvitadoscarmenv/). Room bookings have been made for all participants for those days.

MEETING DETAILS

The meeting will start with an ice-breaker on Sunday evening. On Monday we will have a general introduction to DELTA-MIN by Andrew Putnis, followed by partners and visiting scientist presentations on the research performed in each team. The meeting will also include student presentations of the research performed during their Master or PhD and discussions of the major scientific themes covered by the network. One to one and half days will be occupied by an Introduction to PHREEQC short course by the visiting scientist Manuel Prieto (University of Oviedo). Finally, time will be devoted for discussion of different management aspects. A special visit to the Alhambra with some emphasis on progress in stonework preservation,  is also scheduled during the meeting.

GETTING THERE

The Carmen de la Victoria is located in the Albayzín neighbourhood in Granada, Spain. You can either fly to Granada via Madrid or Barcelona or to Málaga and then take a bus or hire a car (Granada is 1.5 h from Málaga aprox).

Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport is 16km west of the city of Granada and 106km south of the city of Jaén. It mainly handles national flights to Madrid and Barcelona but recently has expanded with a number of international flights from low cost airlines: MONARCH flies from London Gatwick and RYANAIR flies from East Midlands (EMA), Liverpool (LPL), London Stansted (STN), Milan Bergamo (BGY) and Bologna (BLQ). You can either take a taxi from there to the city (approx. 20-30 €) or a bus. Buses to the city from the airport are "following the arrival of every flight" The journey cost is 3 €.
 

11-24-2008 - DELTA-MIN Kick-Off Meeting was held successfully in Münster, Germany

A full attendance guaranteed a successful meeting, which was formally opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences, Prof. Hans Kerp, and the Rector of the University, Prof. Ursula Nelles.

11-17-2008 - Kick-Off Meeting

The DELTA-MIN “kick-off” meeting will be held in the Mercure City Hotel, Münster from 9am on Friday 21st November. Room bookings have been made for all participants for the days required.

The meeting room in the hotel is the “Schlaun”.
 

For participants arriving on Thursday evening, we will meet in the foyer of the Hotel at 8pm and have dinner at the restaurant “Stuhlmacher” which is in the town centre next to the City Hall (Rathaus) (Prinzipalmarkt 6/7) (www.gasthaus-stuhlmacher.de/flash_index.htm).
