24.09.2010 - Versatile Japanese Visiting Professor in Münster
Professor Michinori Suginome, who holds a chair at the Department of Synthetic Chemistry and Biological Chemistry at the renowned University of Kyoto, will stay in Münster for one month as a guest of the new Collaborative Research Centre 858 (SFB 858). The SFB 858, which is dealing with synergetic effects in chemistry, is one of the highly respected flagships of chemical research in Münster.
The outstanding research of Prof. Suginome is remarkably versatile and ranges from synthetic organic chemistry, organometallic and main group chemistry to asymmetric synthesis and polymer chemistry. It is characterized by a high degree of originality and creativity, his research being published in the highest ranking journals of chemistry. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that Prof. Suginome has been awarded numerous research prizes. Among these is the JSPS award that Suginome was awarded this year. This award by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science was given to only two dozens of the most promising young Japanese Professors this year.
Invited by the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Michinori Suginome will spend almost one month at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the WWU Münster, arriving on the September 24th. During this time he will interact and cooperate with scientists and students from Münster. Additionally, he will contribute to the PhD education with own graduate courses. Moreover, he will give a talk on his research on Thursday, 14.10., 5.15 p.m., in the lecture hall C2 of the Chemistry Institutes. Guests are highly welcome!

03.05.2010 - Guest from Amsterdam
Within the framework of the 'International Research Training Group 1444', jointly run by the chemistry department in Münster and the 'Holland Research School of Chemistry', Prof. Matthias Bickelhaupt from the 'Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam' is visiting the Institute for Organic Chemistry this week (May 3-7). Prof. Bickelhaupt is developing and applying theoretical methods for the description of chemical binding and reactivity, providing contributions for the rational design of molecules and nanostructures. He will report about these methods in a series of seminars.

31.08.2009 - Adolf-von-Baeyer-Denkmünze of the GDCh for Prof. Gerhard Erker
The Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker GDCh (Society of German Chemists) has honored Prof. Gerhard Erker with the renowned Adolf-von-Baeyer-Denkmünze (medal in gold). This award is given for outstanding recent research achievements in the area of organic chemistry. This well deserved award recognizes Prof. Erker's tremendous contributions in organometallic chemistry and the investigation of 'frustrated Lewis pairs', but also his engagement in scientific institutions. He was president of the GDCh from 2000 to 2002 and member of the senate of the DFG. At present he serves as a member of the Hochschulrat of the WWU Münster.
