Bir etnomüzikolog olarak caz, popüler müzik, müzik ve ruhaniyet, ve erken dönem kayıt endüstrisi hakkında araştırmalar yapmaktadır. Doktorasını, İTÜ Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı Müzikoloji ve Müzik Teorisi Bölümü’nde "Türkiye'de Caz: Kültürel Anlamları ve Yerelleşme Süreci" başlıklı doktora teziyle 2016 senesinde tamamladı. Yüksek lisans derecesini İTÜ MİAM Etnomüzikoloji Bölümü’nden, 2009 senesinde, "Sema Ayinlerinin Metalaştırılması" adlı teziyle aldı. Altı sene İTÜ Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı’nda araştırma ve öğretim görevlisi olarak görev yaparak, ‘Caz Tarihi’, ‘Popüler Müzik Tarihi’, ‘Popüler Müzik Çalışmaları’ ve ‘Türkiye’de Popüler Müziğe Giriş’ derslerini verdi. Bilgi Üniversitesi’nde 2017 ve 2018 senelerinde ‘Caz Tarihi’ ve ‘Müzik ve Toplumsal Cinsiyet’ derslerini verdi. 2019 ve 2021 seneleri arasında Berlin Freie Universität’te araştırmacı olarak görev yaptı. 2020 senesi yaz döneminde Humboldt Üniversitesi’nde ‘Türkiye Müziklerinde Modernleşme ve Melezleşme’ başlıklı bir ders verdi.
