Books are arranged according to a thematic classification system in over 40 rooms of the library.
The call number, which helps you to find specific books on the shelves, consists of a combination of letters and numbers, for example, ERZ XD1 1408-1(2)A.
The call number can be deciphered as follows:
- The first class mark ERZ = inventory of the Institute of Educational Science
- The second class mark, (in this case, XD1) = "Theorie und Geschichte der Pädagogik als Wissenschaft" in Room 031
- The number 1408 = catalogue number
- Supplementary information: volume serial number for multi-part publications, e.g. …-1, for the edition, e.g. … (2), and for copies of a book, e.g. A (1st copy), B (2nd copy) or C (3rd copy) etc.

Die nach RVK neusignierten Bücher lassen sich durch das Lokalkennzeichen am Kopf des Buchrückens erkennen.

Aus dem Lokalkennzeichen, dem Anfang jeder RVK-Signatur, können Sie den Aufstellungsort ermitteln:

F= Fachbereich 6 Erziehungswissenschaft & Sozialwissenschaften

E= Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft 

K= Institut für Kommunikationswissenschaft

A= Arbeitsstelle für Deutsch-Amerikanische Bildungsgeschichte

F= Archiv Fachdidaktik Pädagogik

L= Lese- & Zeitschriftensaal

P= Präsenzbestand (nicht entleihbarer Bestand in der Bibliothek) 

Die Notation bietet Ihnen einen thematischen Einstieg:

D= Pädagogik

F= Systematische Pädagogik

3000= Philosophie und Theorie der Pädagogik und der Erziehungsstile, Reformpädagogik

Die Cutterung ist meist eine Chiffrierung des Autorenamens oder des Herausgebers:

+2= 2. Exemplar

Journals are not arranged systematically, but are assigned the call number Z and a serial number (numerus currens), e.g. Z 7090. You will find (bound) back issues of the journals at the location indicated in the ULB catalogue or disco.
Current periodicals can be found in the reading room (to the left of the lending desk). The periodicals are arranged by title in alphabetical order on the display shelf. The colour copies of the journal covers can help you find the journal you are looking for more easily.
