Hightech Underground
How will science change our life in the coming years? Focusing on this main question, AFO organized an exhibition in October 2008 in an abandoned pedestrian tunnel under Hindenburgplatz, dealing with a variety of high-tech projects. 1200 visitors received information on a number of issues: stem cell research from a bioethical point of view, electronic guides for exhibitions, a multi-touch wall, the potential of the fuel cell, brain and epilepsy research, nanophotonics and nonlinear complex systems: They also had the opportunity to test their brainpower by playing mind ball games. Thanks to the great commitment shown by the participating exhibitors, as well as various institutions and organizations, the exhibition was a resounding success. Presenting science “underground” contributed to promoting a debate – one of AFO’s declared aims – about the opportunities and risked posed by high-tech. “Hightech Underground” also received an accolade during its preparation phase: the exhibition was given an award as a “Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas in 2008”. For AFO, this was already the third award of this kind.
