Consultation offers regarding the area of business start-ups are various and range from entrepreneurship seminars to personal coaching sessions. A new approach is followed by the EU-project “EMUVE – Entrepreneur Multi-User Virtual Environments”. EMUVE is supposed to enable those interested in starting up a business to prepare such a step online.

Most people are aware of the virtual world Second Life. Users create their own avatars that enable them to interact on a realistic basis. As in real life, it is possible to acquire or rent land, to shop and sell as well as to communicate with others. On EMUVE island entrepreneurs will soon be able to gain knowledge on how to set up a company. Furthermore, a training plan consisting of workshops, courses, presentations and provided business relevant information covering the areas of marketing, business, finances, innovation, project management and internationalization support future entrepreneurs. Thus, a connection between new technologies and real world activities is established. Users benefit from a learning program which connects simulation, pedagogy and “fun”. At the end of the training and with the help of the acquired knowledge, participants are supposed to be able to draw up their own business plan. A further advantage is the possibility to discuss matters with like-minded persons.

Aim of the project “EMUVE” is the establishment of a Europe-wide virtual training center for entrepreneurs. With the help of the virtual 3D environment of Second Life an innovative learning environment is created, in which entrepreneurs are provided with trendsetting methods on how to set up a business. In this matter, AFO works closely together with Prof. Dr. Stefan Stieglitz from the Research Group for Information Systems - Communication and Collaboration Management at the Department of Information Systems. The project is funded by the European Commission (DG Education and Culture) within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Program until October of 2012.
