“Ziel 2” competitions
The North Rhine-Westphalian (NRW) “Ziel-2” programme 2007-2013 (European Fund for Regional Development) is based on strategic targets and economic guidelines laid down by the European Union. The primary objective of this programme to promote regional economies is to strengthen competitiveness and adaptability in North Rhine-Westphalia and to create jobs.
WWU was involved in several of the innovation competitions in 2008/2009. As the project partner of Dortmund Technical University, the Institute of Food Chemistry under Prof. Hans-Ulrich Humpf had a successful entry in the nutrition.NRW competition. In the second call for entries for the Hightech.NRW competition, the Visualisation and Computer Graphics working group under Prof. Klaus Hinrichs – a cooperation partner of Dortmund Technical University – beat all the other entries with their “Avionic Digital Service Platform” project.
Unfortunately, the “Münsterland Start-Ups” entry from Technologieförderung Münster, which had AFO involvement, was not successful in the NRW.Start-Ups competition.

The University of Münster took part in 2007/2008 in a variety of these innovation-competitions. The University Hospital of Münster successfully competed twice in the “Med in.NRW”-contest. Furthermore the Department of Physical Chemistry was able to succeed with its project in the contest “Transfer.NRW”. In addition, the AFO managed to gain support for its “Initiative Unternehmerin” project, which was positively acknowledged by the jury for the “Gründung.NRW” competition. The AFO’s exhibition idea “Design gegen Angst” was also brought to the attention of the regional consortium of design companies and received a great deal of recognition.
