German Research Foundation exhibition looks at its own Nazi past
The touring exhibition organised by the German Research Foundation (DFG) entitled “Academia, Planning, Expulsion: The General Plan for the East” deals with the plan drawn up in 1942 – and later called “The General Plan for the East” – to expel, enslave or murder around five million Germans in conquered territories. WWU junior professor Dr. Isabel Heinemann is involved in the DFG’s project to examine its own Nazi past. Over 60 years ago the Foundation funded academic research to be used quite decidedly for the Nazis’ policies of conquest and annihilation, including The General Plan for the East.
DFG President Prof. Matthias Kleiner and WWU Rector Prof. Ursula Nelles opened the exhibition in Münster in November. AFO organised the opening and was pleased to be able to welcome prominent figures from academic and city life. In January Prof. Heinemann held a public workshop on the exhibition.
